Back at JPLegacy I lead the team responsible for the Film Canon Modification project for the Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis game. It was in part showing the fruits of our labors, resources, and our understanding of the Jurassic Park canon while simultaneously upgrading one of the best games to be released tied to first three films. The project strived for a more authentic feel in terms of play experience. The stock game we felt missed an opportunity with tying up the respective movies at the time altogether in one knot. I opted to post a mirror to it here as well as showcase it as a feature on Jurassic-Pedia. It was very ambitious when we started because no one knew how to modify the skins of the game at the time. It was before the popular HEX editor method was found. When we finally learned how we got to work producing this and frankly were all fairly happy with the results. Since then our understanding of the Jurassic series canon has grown dramatically and continues to grow with each new piece of information produced or comes to light. Please note this mod is provided “as-is” with no support being offered for it whatsoever. If you’re unsure of what or getting an error we’re probably not going to be able to help you whatsoever so please don’t report.
To those who wish to modify the work within and update it all we ask is that you keep the original team’s credits in and let me know via e-mail: admin@jurassic-pedia.com.
Description: Make your JPOG dinosaurs look and sound just like the dinosaurs from the first three Jurassic films. The project itself was in production for nearly a year and painstakingly attempted to match the skins of the animals from the CGI, animatronics, and maquette models created by Stan Winston Studio and Industrial Light and Magic for the Jurassic film. This project aims to give an authentic Jurassic Park experience by modifying skins, loading screens, music, and other files to do it.

I. Introduction
Welcome to the Film Canon Modifications pack. The main focus of the Film Canon Modification program for Jurassic Park Operation Genesis was to adjust the game to be accurate to what was portrayed in the first three films. This modification will take advantage of what JPOG had to offer to the Jurassic Park fan community in the first place and we hope it moves the game into a more accurate surrounding that is truer to the first three films.
II. What was modified
III. Install
To install these you have to be able to open a compressed folder. Most newer versions of Windows will automatically allow you to copy the files over from the compressed folder into the destination folder and allow you to overwrite the contents. If you want you can install a third party program to handle such transfers to make it easier, but if you wish to backup your contents you must do so yourself.
For third-party unzipping programs we recommend the program called 7Zip. It is free and as such is open-source and can be downloaded here safely.
Step 1: This is optional, but a good idea to do!
Backup your files! This step is your choice before proceeding. If you wish to ignore this step, just go ahead and proceed to step 2. It’s a simple matter of making a folder on your desktop and copying folders from your JPOG directory and putting your files in this backup location. Otherwise you’ll have to reinstall the game if you want your original files back. Why do you want to do this? Just in case you want to switch back of course! Go to your Operation Genesis directory, usually found here: “C:Program FilesUniversal InteractiveBlue Tongue SoftwareJurassic Park Operation GenesisJPOG” and start copying the files listed from above. While in this folder you’ll want to stop by the “C:Program FilesUniversal InteractiveBlue Tongue SoftwareJurassic Park Operation GenesisJPOGDataMissionsIslands” area and find the JuraClsc and LostWrld files here and highlight all of them. Right click on them and proceed to Properties and turn off the “Read-Only” option by unchecking it. This will allow you to install the missions properly.
Step 2: Note: Before installing the pack be sure to stop by the “C:Program FilesUniversal InteractiveBlue Tongue SoftwareJurassic Park Operation GenesisJPOGDataMissionsIslands” area and find the JuraClsc and LostWrld files here and highlight all of them. Right click on them and proceed to Properties and turn off the “Read-Only” option by unchecking it. This will allow you to install the missions properly.
Once you are finished with that go ahead and install the mod pack by copying the first “Data” folder to the “C:Program FilesUniversal InteractiveBlue Tongue SoftwareJurassic Park Operation GenesisJPOG” directory. It will ask you if you want to overwrite the files. Select “Yes to All.” Then copy the contents of the second “Data” folder (a subfolder within the “fcm-mod2.0” folder) and paste it to the “C:Program FilesUniversal InteractiveBlue Tongue SoftwareJurassic Park Operation GenesisJPOGData” directory (as a note of reference, this second “Data” folder is next to a folder marked “Alternate skins”). Again, it will ask you if you want to overwrite the files. Select “Yes to All”
Step 3: Now decide if you would like to replace any of the standard dinosaur skins with their alternate versions. If you do desire to do so, go to the appropriate folder within the “Alternate skins” folder (for example, JP3Para or JP3Rex) and copy the matlibs within to the “C:Program FilesUniversal InteractiveBlue Tongue SoftwareJurassic Park Operation GenesisJPOGDatamatlibs” directory.
Step 4: Run the game! First make sure Compatibility mode is set for Windows XP SP3 with “Run This Program as Administrator” checked for the direct executable in addition to “Setup JPOG” file is set for Windows 98/ME if you wish to tweak your graphics settings before you enter a game. Load a level or start a new game, the choice is your’s and Enjoy!
It is that simple! All you have to do is read this documentation thoroughly!
IV: Technical Issues
If you have a technical issue, go back and read the directions and follow it exactly! If you followed the directions precisely it will work beautifully at that. If you are unsure how to install then we’d suggest you READ the documentation here several times to get a field and explore the files to figure it out!
Known Bugs:
– Please note in order to have male skins used by the game YOU MUST change the graphical mode from 32-bit to 16-bit! Multi-Skin mode was something planned, but not supported in this version as it would cause a loss of dead skins.
– “The person (Cleaner Model) for Kiosk and Shop looks very bored!” – There is no way to fix this and the model’s animations. However, wouldn’t you be bored too if you were stuck in a kiosk at a dinosaur park with relatively nothing to do too? This is great purely for comedic value.
– In “The Lost World” Exercise you will have to move some dinosaurs so they don’t get sick, also you will need to rebuild fences and paths as well. This adds more to the “mess” factor I felt. Do note that “Carnivore Feeder 2” is in the inside of a mountain, but you can delete the structure safely without any worries of a crashing game, but I was unable to move it from the actual mission file.
